How to Use

Thursday, July 02, 2009

Giving your vehicle a check up is quick and easy with CarMD. Simply follow the instructions below.

Find Your CarMD Connection
A 16-pin Data Link Connector (DLC) is universal on all 1996 and newer OBD2-certified vehicles. It is usually located under the dashboard on the driver’s side, but may be in another location, as shown to the right.

Note: On some Asian and European vehicles, the DLC is located behind the ashtray.

First time user? You’ll need to write down your vehicles VIN# to run a report at www.CarMD.com.
(VIN# is usually listed on vehicle registration card and printed on the driver’s side dash – viewable through the windshield) Click here for help.
Search for DLC by Year, Make and Model
Connect Your CarMD Tester and Turn the Ignition to “ON”
Do not start the engine. The ignition must be turned to ON within 10 seconds from the time CarMD is connected to avoid an error message. When properly connected, it will beep twice to indicate a “good power” connection.
Listen for the “Beep”
CarMD will automatically link to the vehicle’s computer to retrieve diagnostic information. It will beep four times to indicate successful data retrieval.
Diagnosing the LED Colors
When the CarMD exam has been successfully completed, the tester displays a green, yellow or red indicator light.

A green light means perfect health, no further action needed.

A yellow or red indicator light means there may be some problem, and a diagnostic report should be completed.

Proceed to Step 5.

Log on to www.CarMD.com
After you’ve loaded the CarMD software from the enclosed CD onto your PC, simply link your tester to the PC with the USB cable and log on to the CarMD website to view the probable cause, fix, and cost to return your vehicle to health.
